Juilja was born 1909 as a coal-miner‘s daughter who grew up into a beautiful girl. As a humble shop assistant she married a lawyer named Leo in 1933. Soon afterwards, Leo inherited a successful china and glassware store from his uncle.
In their marriage, which ended in 1941 with Leo‘s premature death, Julia and Leo had an only son, Robert, born 1933, whom they loved very much.
Robert used to say he had three lives.
In his first life, Robert was a spoiled merchant‘s son, living a comfortable and protected life. Robert was called Pavči, i.e., „little Pavel“, by his parents. Pavel was Robert‘s middle name, in honor of his grandfather Pavel.
In his second life, after his father‘s death in 1941, Robert had to grow up quickly. In 1945 all family property was confiscated by the state except for an apartment at 5 Krojaška Lane, where Robert lived with his mother Julija.
Robert became an exceptional chess player who won the junior championship of Yugoslavia in 1950.
In his third life, Robert became a world-renowned physicist with a research and teaching position in Ljubljana, who was invited all around the globe to share his discoveries on order and disorder in liquid crystals and magneto-electric systems.
In addition to his prolific work, Robert took good care of his family. In 1991 – 95, after the Law of denationalisation was passed in the newly independent Slovenia, Robert managed to retrieve most of his family‘s real estate property.
